The Villages, Friday, Feb. 20th., Continued

Well, here it is. Dick came out of nowhere to shoot an 81 to tie Lou for first place. Their total aggregate (3 low rounds) was 260. That's an average score of 86.6. I finished with an aggregate of 267 for an average of 89. Jim, on the other hand shot the round of his life with an 85, and has decided not to quit golf!! He finished with an aggregate of 273 for an average score of 91.1. Dick is happy as a pig in doodoo, as is Jim. Strangely I have not heard either of them complain any further about their injuries. We had a trophy presentation for the co-winners of the DelMasto Spring Classic as well as first and second low medal trophies to Dick (81) and Jim (85). Jim keeps bugging me to play more golf. I don't understand it!!!!

The Villages, Friday, Feb. 20th., 2009

Well today is the last day of golf and Lou has a pretty big lead. Dick and Jim have been struggling and, as I said, are threatening to quit golf and switch to pickleball. By the way, Dick and Carol played Pickleball with Diane and I and enjoyed it. In the meantime, a friend of mine from Rossmoor is down here, i.e., Frank Nobile and his wife Yvonne. Her mother lives here in The Villages. He is a co-Pickle ball Ambassador with me in New Jersey and we went to a couple of beginner lessons, and played once with some beginner/intermediate players at Chula Vista, the original pickle ball Village here. This is where it started. I think we all held our own. I'll post the golf scores a little later on.

The Villages, Thursday, Feb. 19th, 2009

Well, today is a rain date (Thank God!). Today is movie day. Carol, Jim and Diane are going to see "The Reader" and Dick and I are going to see "Gran Torino". Dick and I thought Gran Torino was great. Carol, Jim and Lou all liked "The Reader". I still think Slumdog Millionaire will win the Academy Award for Best Picture. After the movies, we went to Urban Flat in Sumter Landing, a bar/restaurant for a drink and some flatbread. Then we went across the street to the Town Square where they had a Vendor Fair and a Polka Band from Massachusetts (Hadley). Lot of fun.

The Villages, Wed. Feb. 18th, 2009

Today we played at Spruce Creek again in a Shotgun format:

Here are the scores:

Lou: 89

John: 90

Jim: 98

Dick: WD

Dick is about at the end of his rope, and I believe Jim is about to give up golf entirely!! We're taking tomorrow off because it's going to rain and we all need a break from golf.

The Villages Tuesday, Feb. 17th, 2009

Today, we played at Harbor Hills, just outside The Villages. Here are the scores:

Lou: 86

Dick: 89

John: 90

Jim: 101

There's been a lot of complaining to date, mostly by Dick and Jim. Dick has Lateral Epicondylitis (tennis elbow); Jim has a sore groin, and both are threatening to give up golf. I, on the other hand, have not complained at all about my carpal tunnel syndrome, my Dupitrin's Contracture, nor my knee that keeps locking up!!

The Villages, Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 President's Day

Well, today is Presidents' Day and we are playing golf in the morning and then meeting Diane and Carol at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Race Day. First the scores:

John: 87

Jim: 92

Lou: 93

Dick: 96

Ocala is horse country and has been the home of some Triple Crown winners. The Ocala Breeders's Cup is a 5 race format with some young top of the line horses and some Triple Crown caliber jockeys, like Kent Desormeux. It was fun watching them up closely in the paddock area and onto the race track.

The Villages Friday, Feb. 14-15, 2009

As I mentioned, Jim and Carol arrived on Feb. 12th. and Lou and Dick arrived on Saturday the 14th. Jim and I played a practice round at Cane Garden on Friday, the 13th. We played our first official match of the Del Masto Spring Classic on Sunday, Feb. 15th, at Spruce Creek. The format for the Championship was the lowest 3 rounds out of the 4 or 5 we were going to play. Scores were as follow:

Lou: 87

Dick: 90

John: 95

Jim: 96

Tomorrow we play at the Ocala Golf Club

The Villages 2009

We arrived on Sunday, Feb. 1st. just in time for Super Bowl. I have seen every Super Bowl game, and outside of the 1969 (Jets over the Colts), this was one of the most exciting, especially since I won $125 in my office Super Bowl Pool (which I run). I'm the office "book". Don't know what they'll do without me! As of Feb. 1st, I'm also semi-semi retired, which means I work about 25% of the time and go into the New York office about once or twice a month. The first week it was quite cold, so we didn't play much golf. Went to the movies and saw "Slumdog Millionaire", a great movie, which should win the Academy Award. We did play a little golf and some pickleball. The competition down here in The Villages (official home of pickle ball) is quite good. We visited with Janet in Leesburg and when Jim and Carol flew in we took Janet out for her birthday on Feb. 12th. Dick and Lou arrived on Saturday, the 14th, and the next day we started our annual Del Masto Spring Golf Classic, of which I was defending champion, but that's another story for another day.
